Deputy Ksenia Afanasyeva - I'll not retire from sport

Lupita translates an article from local news service Tulska Izvestya that confirms the good news of Ksenia Afanasyeva's intention to continue in gymnastics.

??scow, October 16th � Silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, Ksenia Afanasyeva, will continue her career in artistic gymnastics. Her mandate as Deputy at the city elections in Bogoroditsk won't lead to her leaving gymnastics, stated Afanasyeva in an interview she gave to the Russian Ministry of Sport�s website. "After the end of a sports career, life must go on. I won�t be always in sport. Nevertheless, I don�t intend to quit any time soon. My future aims are the Russian Championships, the European Championships and the 2013 Universiade.  I want to become Deputy because I want to help people. I�ll have the opportunity to do so in the city�s council. Bogoroditsk is located in the Tula region, where I come from. I have families who live near the city. They support me in this enterprise ",  said Afanasyeva. :

Aliya Mustafina and Alexander Alexandrov - Wonderwall

And go to Gymnastike to view a video of the Russian team in training with Alexandrov at the 2011 World Championships.  They look disciplined enough to me.

Apparently the sports federations have meetings with Russian Sports Minister Vladimir Mutko on Monday to analyse the results of the Olympics and development plans for the coming years.  At this meeting the decisions of the Coaches' Council of the Russian Gymnastics Federation will be discussed, including the re-allocation of coaching responsibilities.  In an article in Izvestia, Alexandrov has said that the meeting was secretly videotaped, suggesting that the proceedings and decision to let him go were rigged.  I do not know if Mutko can overturn the decisions taken or suggest further or alternative measures be taken to re-establish calm and discipline at Lake Krugloye.

We'll continue to try to do what we can to find some clarity in this knotty situation.
